Delightful strawberry glazed donuts that are fluffy and topped with a glossy glaze bursting with fresh fruit flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Oil for frying
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, pureed
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast: In a small bowl, combine warm milk with the yeast and 1 teaspoon of the granulated sugar. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Prepare the dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the remaining sugar, flour, and salt.
  3. Mix up the wet ingredients: In another bowl, beat the eggs with the melted butter and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. Combine the mixtures: Pour the foamy yeast mixture and the egg mixture into the dry ingredients. Stir until a soft dough begins to form.
  5. Knead the dough: Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  6. Let it rise: Place the kneaded dough into a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  7. Shape the donuts: Roll out the dough to about 1/2 inch thickness and cut out donuts using a donut cutter.
  8. Heat the oil: In a deep fryer or pot, heat oil to 350°F (175°C).
  9. Fry the donuts: Carefully place the donuts into the hot oil, frying for about 1 minute on each side until golden brown.
  10. Make the glaze: While the donuts cool, whisk together pureed strawberries, powdered sugar, and lemon juice until smooth.
  11. Glaze the donuts: Once cool, dip the tops of the donuts into the strawberry glaze and set them on a rack to allow the glaze to set.

Notes

Allow the yeast to activate properly for the best fluffy texture. Don’t rush the rising process!
