A flavorful dish combining Italian sausage, penne pasta, and a sticky, sweet BBQ sauce with a hint of heat, perfect for weeknight dinners.

  • 1 lb Italian sausage, sliced
  • 12 oz penne pasta
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Cook the penne pasta in a large pot of salted boiling water until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced sausage, browning on all sides.
  3. Stir in the chopped onion and bell pepper; sauté until tender.
  4. Mix together BBQ sauce, honey, apple cider vinegar, crushed red pepper flakes, and garlic powder in a bowl.
  5. Pour the sauce into the skillet and stir to coat the sausage and veggies.
  6. Add the cooked pasta to the skillet; toss well to combine and heat through.
  7. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top; cover until melted.
  8. Season with salt and pepper before serving warm.

Notes

For extra heat, add sliced jalapeños. This dish can be made ahead of time and reheated when ready to serve.
