These Spicy Honey Halloumi Tacos are packed with crispy halloumi, sweet honey, and spicy chili flakes for a flavorful vegetarian meal.

  • 250 g halloumi cheese, sliced into 1 cm thick pieces
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 teaspoon chili flakes (adjust to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • 8 small corn or flour tortillas
  • 1 ripe avocado, sliced
  • 1 cup red cabbage, shredded
  • 1/2 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Optional: sour cream or Greek yogurt, for topping

Instructions

  1. Begin by preparing the halloumi cheese. Pat the slices dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture.
  2. Mix together the honey, chili flakes, smoked paprika, lime juice, and a pinch of salt and pepper for the spicy honey marinade.
  3. Heat the olive oil in a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Add the halloumi slices and cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.
  4. Drizzle half of the spicy honey mixture over the halloumi slices while they cook.
  5. Warm the tortillas in a separate pan or microwave until pliable and soft.
  6. Remove the halloumi from heat once crispy on both sides.
  7. Assemble the tacos by laying out a warm tortilla, adding slices of halloumi, shredded red cabbage, avocado slices, and cilantro.
  8. Drizzle the reserved spicy honey mixture on top and add optional sour cream or Greek yogurt.
  9. Repeat the process with remaining tortillas and ingredients.

Notes

Make sure to pat the halloumi dry before cooking for optimal crispiness. Adjust chili flakes based on spice preference.
