These tender and sticky chicken drumsticks are slow-cooked in a flavorful honey BBQ sauce, perfect for family gatherings or weeknight dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 pounds chicken drumsticks
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce (plus more for broiling)
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar (optional, for stickier sauce)
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar (optional, for tang)

Instructions

  1. Pat the chicken drumsticks dry with paper towels, then season them all over with the salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, onion powder, and garlic powder. Rub the seasonings in to ensure even coverage.
  2. Whisk together the BBQ sauce, honey, brown sugar (if using), and apple cider vinegar (if using) in a bowl.
  3. Place the seasoned chicken drumsticks in your slow cooker and pour the honey BBQ sauce over the top.
  4. Cover the slow cooker and cook on LOW for 5 to 6 hours or on HIGH for 3 to 4 hours, until the chicken is tender and cooked through.
  5. Transfer the cooked drumsticks to a foil-lined baking sheet. Brush them generously with additional BBQ sauce and broil for 2 to 5 minutes, keeping a close eye, until the sauce is sticky and slightly charred.
  6. Serve the Slow Cooker Honey BBQ Chicken Drumsticks hot, with any extra sauce on the side for dipping.

Notes

Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Use a meat thermometer to ensure the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F.
