Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450 g) sausage (Italian, smoked, or chicken sausage, sliced)
  • 4 cups green cabbage, chopped (about half a medium head)
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 bell pepper, sliced (any color)
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)

Instructions

  1. Slice the sausage into bite-sized pieces to ensure they cook evenly and infuse the dish with flavor.
  2. Chop the green cabbage into roughly 1-inch pieces, and thinly slice the onion and bell pepper. Mince the garlic cloves carefully to release their full flavor.
  3. Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
  4. Add the sausage pieces to the skillet and cook for 5 to 7 minutes until nicely browned and cooked through.
  5. Toss in the sliced onion and bell pepper, cooking them together for 3 to 4 minutes until softened but still retaining some bite.
  6. Stir in the minced garlic and let it cook for an additional minute.
  7. Add the chopped cabbage to the skillet, stirring everything to combine. Cook for about 5 to 7 minutes until tender.
  8. Return the browned sausage to the skillet and pour in 3 tablespoons of soy sauce, 1/2 teaspoon black pepper, and 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes. Stir well.
  9. Continue to cook for another 2 to 3 minutes, heating everything through.
  10. Serve this scrumptious stir fry warm, savoring every bite.
