A delicious homemade Orange Chicken that’s sweet and tangy, rivaling any restaurant version.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Coat the Chicken: Begin by mixing the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, and black pepper in a bowl. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs. Dip each piece of chicken into the egg mixture, then coat it thoroughly in the flour mixture.
  2. Fry the Chicken: Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Fry the coated chicken pieces in batches for 3-4 minutes per side, or until they are golden brown and cooked through. Drain the fried chicken on paper towels to remove any excess oil.
  3. Prepare the Orange Sauce: In a saucepan, whisk together the orange juice, sugar, soy sauce, rice vinegar, cornstarch, orange zest, crushed red pepper flakes (if using), garlic, and ginger. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring constantly until the sauce thickens, about 3-5 minutes.
  4. Combine and Serve: Add the fried chicken pieces to the orange sauce and gently toss to coat the chicken evenly. Serve the delicious Orange Chicken hot, either over a bed of steamed rice or alongside your favorite steamed vegetables.

Notes

Serve with fluffy white rice or fried rice to soak up the sauce. Add sesame seeds and green onions for garnish.
