Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (for chocolate layer)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, pureed (for strawberry layer)
  • 1 cup heavy cream (for frosting)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour three 8-inch round cake pans.
  2. Mix together the cocoa powder, flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
  3. Cream together the sugar and softened butter until light and fluffy, then add the eggs one at a time and the vanilla extract.
  4. Stir in the flour mixture alternately with the milk until just combined.
  5. Divide the batter into three bowls; leave one plain, mix strawberry puree into the second, and fold cocoa powder into the third.
  6. Pour each layer into the prepared pans and bake for about 25-30 minutes.
  7. Allow the cakes to cool completely before transferring them to a wire rack.
  8. Whip the cream and powdered sugar until stiff peaks form.
  9. Start layering with the chocolate layer, followed by vanilla, and topping with the strawberry layer. Spread whipped cream in between layers.
  10. Frost the top and sides of the cake with the remaining whipped cream and decorate as desired.
