Delicious homemade pretzels stuffed with zesty jalapeño cheese, perfectly baked to golden brown.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups warm water
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons baking soda
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 cup shredded jalapeño cheese
  • Coarse sea salt (for sprinkling)

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast in a large bowl by mixing warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Combine the dry ingredients by gently stirring in flour and salt until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes, until it’s smooth and elastic.
  4. Let the dough rise in a warm spot, covered, for 1 hour until it has doubled in size.
  5. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) while the dough rises.
  6. Shape the pretzels by dividing the dough into pieces, stuffing each with shredded jalapeño cheese.
  7. Boil the pretzels in a large pot of water mixed with baking soda for 30 seconds each, then let them drain.
  8. Prepare for baking by placing the boiled pretzels on a parchment-lined baking sheet, brushing with egg wash, and sprinkling with sea salt.
  9. Bake for 12-15 minutes until the pretzels are golden brown.
  10. Enjoy warm with your favorite dips or on their own!
