Crispy French Fries

Delightful homemade crispy French fries that are golden brown and perfectly crunchy.

Ingredients

  • 4 large russet potatoes
  • Oil for frying (vegetable or peanut oil)
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Optional: your favorite dipping sauce

Instructions

  1. Peel and cut the potatoes into sticks about 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick.
  2. Soak the potato sticks in cold water for at least 30 minutes.
  3. Drain the potatoes and pat them dry with a towel.
  4. Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 325°F (160°C).
  5. Fry the potatoes in batches for about 5-6 minutes until soft but not yet colored.
  6. Remove the fries with a slotted spoon and let them cool on a paper towel lined plate.
  7. Increase the oil temperature to 375°F (190°C).
  8. Fry the cooled potatoes in batches again for 2-3 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
  9. Season with salt and pepper while hot.
  10. Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

Don’t skip the soaking step! It’s vital for texture. Fry in batches to maintain oil temperature for better results.
