Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf of bread (such as challah or brioche)
  • 6 eggs
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 1/2 cup of heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup of sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • Butter for greasing the baking dish
  • Maple syrup and powdered sugar for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and generously grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter.
  2. Cube the loaf of bread into 1-inch cubes and place them in your prepared baking dish.
  3. Whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
  4. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread cubes, pressing down gently to ensure every piece is soaked.
  5. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or overnight (optional).
  6. Remove from the refrigerator (if soaked) and place the dish in the preheated oven. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
  7. Let it cool slightly before serving warm.

Notes

Use stale bread for better absorption. For extra crunch, sprinkle nuts or granola on top before baking.
