Easy Kunafeh Recipe with Mozzarella

An enchanting Kunafeh dessert featuring crispy Kataifi pastry and a gooey cheese filling, infused with rose water.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 300 g Kataifi pastry
  • 350 g salted butter, melted
  • 300 g mozzarella or akkawi cheese
  • Room temperature water (for soaking the mozzarella)
  • 250 g ashta or mascarpone cheese
  • 250 ml rose scented simple syrup
  • 3 Tbsp coarsely ground pistachios
  • 12 Tbsp dried edible rose petals
  • 250 ml water
  • 300 g white sugar
  • 1 tsp fresh lemon juice
  • 2 Tbsp rose water or orange blossom water

Instructions

  1. Soak the mozzarella or akkawi cheese in room temperature water for about an hour.
  2. Prepare the Kataifi pastry by gently pulling it apart to separate the strands.
  3. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) and butter the first half of the Kataifi in a baking dish.
  4. Mix the drained cheese with ashta (or mascarpone) until smooth.
  5. Assemble the Kunafeh by spreading the cheese mixture over the first layer of Kataifi.
  6. Bake in the oven for 30-35 minutes until golden and crispy.
  7. Prepare rose scented syrup by combining water, sugar, and lemon juice.
  8. Drizzle the syrup over the baked Kunafeh immediately.
  9. Garnish with coarsely ground pistachios and dried rose petals.

Notes

Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or Arabic coffee for an indulgent experience.
