Delightful cruffins made with flaky puff pastry, filled with creamy custard and drizzled with chocolate, perfect for breakfast or an afternoon treat.

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup pastry cream or custard
  • 1/4 cup chocolate ganache or melted chocolate (optional)
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Combine granulated sugar and ground cinnamon in a small bowl to create the cinnamon sugar mixture.
  3. Roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface and brush it with melted butter.
  4. Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture evenly over the buttered pastry sheet.
  5. Starting from one edge, tightly roll the puff pastry into a log shape.
  6. Cut the rolled pastry log into 6 to 8 equal slices.
  7. Place each slice with the cut side facing up on the prepared baking sheet.
  8. Bake for 18 to 22 minutes until golden brown and puffed.
  9. Cool slightly and slice each cruffin horizontally to fill with pastry cream or custard.
  10. Drizzle with chocolate ganache if desired and dust with powdered sugar before serving.
