A delicious recipe for crispy pork carnitas, transforming pork shoulder into mouthwatering perfection.

Ingredients

  • 3 to 4 pounds pork shoulder
  • 1 onion, quartered
  • 4 cloves garlic, smashed
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 1 lime, juiced
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C).
  2. In a large pot, combine the pork shoulder, onion, garlic, salt, pepper, cumin, oregano, bay leaf, orange juice, and lime juice.
  3. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, then cover and transfer to the oven.
  4. Cook for 3-4 hours until the pork is tender and easily shredded.
  5. Remove the pork from the pot and shred it using two forks.
  6. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
  7. Add the shredded pork to the skillet and cook until crispy, about 5-7 minutes.
  8. Serve in tacos, burritos, or with sides of your choice.

Notes

For extra crisp, consider broiling the carnitas for a couple of minutes after pan-frying.
