Delicious and healthy Chicken Lettuce Wraps filled with ground chicken, crunchy water chestnuts, and a flavorful sauce.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
  • 2 Tbsp reduced-sodium soy sauce or tamari sauce
  • 2 Tbsp water
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp rice wine vinegar
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 Tbsp sriracha or gochujang (optional)
  • 1 Tbsp olive oil
  • 1 pound ground chicken or ground turkey
  • 1 small yellow onion (diced)
  • 2 garlic cloves (minced)
  • 2 tsp freshly grated ginger
  • 8 oz water chestnuts (canned, drained and diced)
  • 1/4 cup green onion (chopped)
  • 1 head butter lettuce or romaine hearts (separated into cups)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Flavorful Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the hoisin sauce, soy sauce, water, rice wine vinegar, sesame oil, and optional sriracha or gochujang.
  2. Heat the Oil: In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat.
  3. Sauté the Aromatics: Add the diced onion to the skillet and sauté for about 2-3 minutes until it softens.
  4. Add Garlic and Ginger: Stir in the minced garlic and grated ginger, cooking for another minute.
  5. Brown the Ground Chicken: Add in the ground chicken or turkey, cook until it’s no longer pink, approximately 5-6 minutes.
  6. Mix in Crunch: Once the chicken is cooked, stir in the diced water chestnuts and green onions.
  7. Sauce It Up: Pour the prepared sauce into the skillet and mix until everything is well-coated. Simmer for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  8. Assemble the Wraps: Spoon a generous amount of the chicken mixture into the lettuce cups.

Notes

Customize the filling with your favorite spices or additional vegetables. Store leftover filling in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
