A comforting plate of pasta tossed in creamy garlic butter sauce with hearty ground beef and topped with gooey cheese.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 oz bowtie pasta (farfalle)
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk (whole or 2%)

Instructions

  1. Cook the Pasta: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil, then add the bowtie pasta. Cook until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes. Before draining, reserve about a cup of the starchy cooking water.
  2. Brown the Beef: In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the ground beef, breaking it apart with a spatula, and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Season with salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes if you like a bit of heat.
  3. Sauté the Vegetables: Add the finely chopped onion to the skillet. Cook until the onion is translucent, about 4 minutes. Then, stir in the minced garlic and Italian seasoning, allowing the garlic to become fragrant, about 1 minute.
  4. Make the Garlic Butter Sauce: In the same skillet, add the butter. Once melted, sprinkle in the flour, whisking continuously for about 1-2 minutes. Gradually pour in the milk, whisking until the sauce thickens and becomes smooth.
  5. Melt the Cheeses: Stir in the shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan until melted and smooth.
  6. Combine Everything: Add the cooked bowtie pasta and beef mixture to the skillet, tossing everything together until well coated with the sauce. Adjust the consistency with reserved pasta water if necessary.
  7. Gather and Serve: Transfer to a serving dish or individual bowls. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley and serve hot.
