Gooey cheese surrounded by a crispy panko crust, these baked mozzarella sticks are a healthier take on a classic snack.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup panko bread crumbs
  • 2 tablespoons butter (melted)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon oregano
  • 1 dash cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1 large egg (beaten)
  • 6 pieces mozzarella string cheese sticks (unwrapped)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Combine panko bread crumbs, melted butter, salt, garlic powder, oregano, and cayenne pepper in a mixing bowl.
  3. Coat each mozzarella stick in cornstarch.
  4. Dip the sticks in the beaten egg until fully covered.
  5. Roll the egg-coated sticks in the panko mixture until completely covered.
  6. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Serve with marinara sauce for dipping. For extra crunch, double coat the sticks.
