  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1/4 cup red food coloring
  • Icing for decoration

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, and salt; set aside.
  3. Cream together the softened butter and sugar until smooth.
  4. Beat in the egg, then add vanilla extract, almond extract, and red food coloring.
  5. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients until a dough forms.
  6. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness.
  7. Using cookie cutters, cut out heart shapes from the rolled dough.
  8. Place the cookies on ungreased baking sheets and bake for 8 to 10 minutes until golden.
  9. Allow cookies to cool before decorating with icing.
