A rich chocolate cake adorned with fresh strawberries, perfect for celebrating love on special occasions.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup fresh strawberries, sliced
  • Red food coloring (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  3. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  4. Add eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract; beat on medium speed for 2 minutes.
  5. Stir in boiling water carefully; the batter will be thin.
  6. Pour the batter into prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes.
  7. Cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
  8. Whip heavy cream and powdered sugar until soft peaks form.
  9. Layer one cake on a plate, add whipped cream, and top with strawberry slices.
  10. Place the second cake layer on top, decorate with more whipped cream and strawberries, adding red food coloring if desired.

Notes

For best results, use room temperature eggs and milk. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
