Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cream together the granulated sugar and softened butter until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt in another bowl. Gradually add this mixture to the wet mixture until just combined.
  5. Divide the dough into portions and mix in food coloring if desired.
  6. Roll the dough into small balls and coat each in powdered sugar.
  7. Arrange the cookies on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are set and the centers are soft.
  9. Cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
