Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup (for glaze)
  • 12 tablespoons milk or water (for glaze consistency)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Add the egg and vanilla extract to the butter mixture and beat until well combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the buttermilk, and mix just until combined.
  6. Fold in the pure maple syrup until fully incorporated.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  9. While the bars are baking, prepare the maple glaze by whisking together the powdered sugar and maple syrup. Add milk or water until the desired consistency is reached.
  10. Allow the baked bars to cool in the dish for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  11. Drizzle the maple glaze over the bars and let it set before slicing into bars.
