A quick and flavorful Sesame Chicken recipe with crispy chicken pieces coated in a sweet-savory glaze.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breast or thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch (or all-purpose flour)
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup water
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water
  • Sesame seeds for garnish
  • Chopped green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chicken Coating: In a bowl, combine the cornstarch, flour, salt, and pepper. This mix will create a crunchy outer layer for your chicken pieces. In another bowl, whisk together the egg and water.
  2. Dip and Coat the Chicken: Dip the chicken pieces in the egg mixture, then coat them in the flour mixture. Shake off any excess to ensure even coverage.
  3. Fry the Chicken: Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Fry the chicken pieces until golden and cooked through, about 4-5 minutes. Remove them from the oil and drain on paper towels to remove excess grease.
  4. Create the Sauce: In a separate saucepan, combine soy sauce, sugar, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and the cornstarch-water mixture. Cook over medium heat until the sauce thickens, releasing a tantalizing aroma.
  5. Combine Chicken and Sauce: Add the fried chicken to the sauce, tossing to coat evenly. Allow the chicken to bask in all that flavorful goodness for a minute.
  6. Serve: Serve hot, garnished with sesame seeds and chopped green onions, elevating the dish’s presentation and flavor profile.

Notes

For extra crispiness, double bread the chicken. Make sure your oil is hot enough for frying.
