A classic dish that combines ground beef and rice, cooked in a rich tomato sauce, bringing warmth and nostalgia.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 cup uncooked rice (white or brown)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 egg
  • 3 cups tomato sauce (homemade or store-bought)
  • 1 cup water

Instructions

  1. Combine the Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, uncooked rice, chopped onion, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and egg. Mix well with your hands until fully combined.
  2. Shape the Meatballs: Once well mixed, use your hands to form the mixture into meatballs, about 1-1.5 inches in diameter.
  3. Brown the Meatballs: In a large skillet over medium heat, add a bit of oil. Once hot, add the meatballs in batches, browning them for about 4-5 minutes on each side.
  4. Prepare the Sauce: In a large saucepan, combine the tomato sauce and water over medium heat. Stirring well, bring to a simmer.
  5. Bake the Meatballs: Once browned, gently place the meatballs into the simmering sauce. Cover and let them cook for about 25 minutes on low heat.
  6. Serve and Enjoy!: Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly. Serve the meatballs over pasta, rice, or enjoy them on their own.

Notes

Leftovers can be kept in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or can be frozen for up to 3 months. Don’t skip browning the meatballs; this step is key to deepening the flavor!
