A moist and fluffy cake with bright citrus notes from fresh orange juice and zest, combined with the warm aroma of cardamom, perfect for any occasion.

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup fresh orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon grated orange zest
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and cardamom.
  3. In another large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time.
  5. Mix in the orange juice and zest.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan.
  8. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  9. Allow to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Serve at room temperature with a dusting of powdered sugar or a dollop of whipped cream. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days.
