Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • Buttercream frosting (black, white, and green for decoration)
  • Fondant (for detailed figures and decorations)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients and beat on medium speed for 2 minutes.
  4. Stir in boiling water until well combined (the batter will be thin).
  5. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  7. Cool the cakes in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. Once cooled, frost and layer the cakes with black buttercream frosting.
  9. Use fondant to create Jack Skellington, Oogie Boogie, and other decor from the film for a spooky effect.
  10. Serve at your themed party and enjoy!
