A rich and moist cake that combines the deep flavors of chocolate with the zesty brightness of orange.

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Zest of 1 orange
  • Chopped chocolate or chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease your favorite cake pan.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Stir until well mixed.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, orange juice, vegetable oil, vanilla extract, and fresh orange zest.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry mixture and stir until just combined. Fold in optional chocolate chips or chopped chocolate.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For serving suggestions, dust with powdered sugar or serve with whipped cream and fresh berries. Store in an airtight container for up to three days at room temperature or refrigerate for up to a week.
