Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds fresh mussels
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 lemon, juiced and zested
  • 1/4 cup white wine or chicken broth
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Rinse the mussels under cold water and remove any beards. Discard any mussels that are open and do not close when tapped.
  2. Melt the butter in a large pot over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  3. Pour in the white wine or chicken broth, along with the lemon juice and zest. Stir gently to combine.
  4. Add the mussels to the pot and cover with a lid. Cook for about 5–7 minutes, or until the mussels have opened up.
  5. Season with salt and pepper to taste, and garnish with fresh parsley before serving.

Notes

Serve with warm, crusty bread for dipping into the garlic lemon butter sauce. Best enjoyed fresh.
