Delightful homemade pizza featuring caramelized onions, mozzarella, and gruyere cheese topped with fresh thyme.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pizza dough
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 cup gruyere cheese, shredded
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves
  • Balsamic glaze (optional) for drizzling

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C).
  2. In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook until caramelized, stirring occasionally, about 20 minutes.
  3. On a floured surface, roll out the pizza dough until it reaches your desired thickness.
  4. Transfer the rolled-out dough to a pizza stone or baking sheet and evenly spread the caramelized onions over the surface.
  5. Sprinkle the mozzarella and gruyere cheese on top of the onions.
  6. Scatter the fresh thyme leaves across the top.
  7. Bake for about 12-15 minutes until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbling.
  8. Optional: Drizzle with balsamic glaze before serving.

Notes

Caramelize onions slowly for best flavor. Store any leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
