Deliciously crispy churros paired with a rich chocolate dipping sauce, perfect for sharing and dipping.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 4 ounces dark chocolate (chopped)
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chocolate Dipping Sauce: In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream until it just begins to simmer. Remove from heat, add the chopped dark chocolate, and let sit for one minute. Stir until smooth and mix in the vanilla extract. Set aside.
  2. Make the Churro Dough: In a medium saucepan, combine water, 2 tablespoons of sugar, salt, and butter. Bring to a boil over medium heat until the butter melts. Reduce heat to low, add all-purpose flour all at once, and stir vigorously until a ball forms, about 1 minute. Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly.
  3. Combine Eggs into Dough: Add eggs one at a time, mixing thoroughly after each addition until the dough is smooth and combined.
  4. Heat the Oil: In a large skillet or deep fryer, heat vegetable oil to 375°F (190°C).
  5. Prepare the Cinnamon-Sugar Coating: In a shallow dish, combine granulated sugar and ground cinnamon.
  6. Pipe the Churros: Transfer churro dough to a piping bag fitted with a large star tip. Pipe 3-4 inch lengths directly into the hot oil, cutting the dough with scissors.
  7. Fry the Churros: Fry the churros until they are golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  8. Drain and Coat the Churros: Remove churros with a slotted spoon and place on paper towels to drain. Roll the fried churros in the cinnamon-sugar mixture to coat evenly while still warm.
  9. Serve Warm: Serve immediately with the prepared chocolate dipping sauce for dunking.

Notes

Churros are best enjoyed fresh. If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. Reheat in the oven to restore some of their crunch.
