These Easy Apple Hand Pies are the epitome of comfort food with a buttery, flaky crust and warm apple filling, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 68 tablespoons cold water
  • 3 cups peeled and diced apples
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup sugar (for filling)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt.
  2. Cut in the cubed butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Stir in the sugar.
  4. Gradually add cold water, one tablespoon at a time, mixing until the dough just comes together.
  5. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  6. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  7. In another bowl, mix the diced apples, sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice.
  8. Once the dough is chilled, roll out on a floured surface and cut into circles (about 4 inches in diameter).
  9. Place a spoonful of the apple mixture on one half of each circle.
  10. Fold over the dough and seal the edges with a fork.
  11. Brush the tops with a beaten egg.
  12. Bake for 20-25 minutes until they are golden brown and fragrant.
  13. Allow to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

These hand pies can be made in advance and are fantastic on their own or served with ice cream.
