A warm, savory sandwich filled with tender, juicy beef, smothered in a rich broth, perfect for comfort and nostalgia.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 to 2 pounds beef roast (such as chuck)
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup water
  • 6 to 8 hoagie rolls
  • Sliced provolone cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the beef roast by placing it in the slow cooker.
  2. Add the sliced onion, minced garlic, thyme, salt, and pepper.
  3. Pour the beef broth and water over the beef.
  4. Set to cook on low for 8 hours or until the beef is tender.
  5. Shred the beef with two forks in the slow cooker.
  6. Assemble the sandwiches by serving the shredded beef on hoagie rolls, topped with provolone cheese, if desired.
  7. Prepare for dipping by ladling some of the cooking liquid into small bowls.

Notes

Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 3 months. Reheat gently with a splash of broth.
