A rich and moist chocolate cake layered and frosted with velvety mousse, perfect for celebrations.

Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 8 ounces bittersweet chocolate, melted
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  4. Add in the eggs, whole milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients.
  5. Carefully stir in the boiling water.
  6. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes.
  8. Once baked, let the cakes cool in the pans for about 10 minutes.
  9. In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form.
  10. Fold in the melted bittersweet chocolate and powdered sugar to the whipped cream.
  11. Once the cakes are completely cool, take one layer and spread a generous amount of mousse on it.
  12. Refrigerate the assembled cake for at least one hour before serving.

Notes

Serve with whipped cream or fresh berries for extra flavor.
