A rich, velvety chocolate mousse cake made with a chocolate cake mix, heavy cream, and chocolate ganache, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box chocolate cake mix
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chocolate ganache

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a round cake pan.
  2. Mix the chocolate cake mix, eggs, water, and vegetable oil in a large mixing bowl until smooth.
  3. Bake the batter in the prepared cake pan for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool on a wire rack.
  4. Melt the chocolate chips in a saucepan over low heat until smooth, then cool slightly.
  5. Whip the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until soft peaks form, then fold in the melted chocolate.
  6. Assemble the cake by slicing it in half horizontally and spreading mousse on the bottom layer before placing the top layer back on.
  7. Pour the chocolate ganache over the top layer, letting it cascade down the sides.
  8. Chill the cake in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours before serving.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. For long-term storage, freeze slices wrapped in plastic wrap for up to a month.
