A classic, rich Chocolate Mousse Cake featuring a dense chocolate cake base and a luxurious chocolate mousse topping.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract (for mousse)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a cake pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Cream together the softened unsalted butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla, mixing until smooth.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk, mixing until just combined.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for 25-30 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool.
  6. While the cake cools, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form. Gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla, and whip until stiff peaks.
  7. Carefully fold the whipped cream into cooled chocolate until fully incorporated.
  8. Once the cake is cool, spread the chocolate mousse on top and refrigerate for about 1 hour.
  9. Slice the cake, serve chilled, and enjoy!

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. For a more intense chocolate flavor, use high-quality cocoa powder.
