A delightful blend of chewy cookies and fudgy brownies, enhanced with the rich, nutty flavor of brown butter.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (brown butter)
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 cup brownie mix
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips (for brownie layer)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. Brown the butter over medium heat, stirring until it turns golden brown, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Combine browned butter with brown sugar and granulated sugar, then stir in vanilla extract and eggs until creamy.
  4. Mix the flour, baking soda, and salt together, then gradually add to the butter mixture, mixing until just combined. Fold in chocolate chips.
  5. Layer half the cookie dough into the bottom of the prepared pan, pressing it down evenly.
  6. Prepare the brownie mix according to package directions using 1/4 cup water, then pour it over the cookie layer.
  7. Top with spoonfuls of the remaining cookie dough, leaving space for spreading.
  8. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the edges are set and a toothpick comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  9. Allow to cool before cutting into squares and serving.
