A warm and comforting dessert made with stale bread, topped with a sweet vanilla sauce.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups stale bread, cubed
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup raisins (optional)
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the milk, sugar, eggs, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. Fold in the cubed stale bread and raisins until well combined.
  4. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and bake for 30-40 minutes, or until set and golden brown.
  5. To make the vanilla sauce, heat the heavy cream in a saucepan and whisk in the powdered sugar until smooth.
  6. Serve slices of bread pudding warm, drizzled with vanilla sauce.

Notes

Use stale bread for the best texture and consider adding seasonal fruits for a twist.
