A rich and comforting Bolognese sauce that celebrates the flavors of Italian cooking.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 carrot, diced
  • 1 celery stalk, diced
  • 500g ground beef or pork
  • 1 can (400g) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Grated Parmesan cheese for serving
  • Fresh basil for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the finely chopped onion, minced garlic, diced carrot, and diced celery to the skillet.
  3. Increase the heat and add your choice of ground beef or pork.
  4. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, and the beef broth.
  5. Add the dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and pepper.
  6. Reduce the heat to low and let your sauce simmer for 30-40 minutes.
  7. Serve the Bolognese sauce over freshly cooked pasta, garnished with Parmesan cheese and fresh basil.

Notes

This sauce can be customized by adding more vegetables or using ground turkey for a lighter version.
