A comforting and flavorful take on Southern baked beans, combining sweet and savory elements with crispy bacon.

Ingredients

  • 2 cans of baked beans
  • 4 slices of bacon, chopped
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon mustard
  • 1/2 onion, diced
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a skillet, cook the chopped bacon until crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels, keeping some grease in the pan.
  3. Sauté the diced onion in the bacon drippings until translucent.
  4. In a large bowl, combine baked beans, bacon, sautéed onions, brown sugar, barbecue sauce, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, and salt and pepper. Mix well.
  5. Pour the mixture into a baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for about 30-40 minutes, until bubbly and slightly caramelized.
  7. Let cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Adjust the sweetness to taste. For added heat, consider adding cayenne pepper or jalapeños.
