  • 2 ripe bananas, mashed
  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup brown butter (for icing)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 12 tablespoons milk (for icing)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. Mash the ripe bananas until smooth, then blend in the melted butter.
  3. Stir in the granulated sugar, egg, and vanilla extract.
  4. Mix in the baking soda and salt thoroughly.
  5. Gradually add the all-purpose flour, stirring gently until just combined.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. While the bars bake, brown the butter in a small saucepan over medium heat.
  9. Whisk in the powdered sugar and enough milk to achieve a smooth consistency for the icing.
  10. Once the bars have cooled, spread the brown butter icing over the top.
  11. Cut into squares and serve.

Ensure bananas are ripe for optimal sweetness. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
