This Authentic French Bread is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, perfect for sandwiches or alongside soups.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 packet instant yeast

Instructions

  1. Activate the Yeast: In a large bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Combine Ingredients: Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture and stir until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the Dough: Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth.
  4. First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for about 30 minutes.
  5. Preheat Your Oven: Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C).
  6. Shape the Baguette: Shape the dough into a baguette and place it on a baking sheet.
  7. Resting Period: Let it rest for 15 minutes, then score the top of the loaf.
  8. Bake to Perfection: Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and crusty.

Notes

Serve with butter, olive oil, or herbed cheese. Store leftovers in a paper bag at room temperature or freeze for longer storage. Toast to revive.
